Suffolk Group


Ten members attended our second monthly meeting .
We discussed our present work and future plans; wrestled with the theme [Concept and Meaning] for the next ERTF exhibition at Norwich in 2011; had lunch and even did some stitching.
Next meeting is on 25th May, contact Suffolk rep. if you would like to come too.

MESCH EXHIBITION UNTIL 3rd May

MESCH an exhibition of Textile Art

at the Tavern Gallery in Meldreth.

This newly opened gallery was the old Railway Tavern

situated at the end of Meldreth High Street next door to the Railway Station.

open Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(closed 1-1.30 p.m. for lunch)


The exhibition, with works by ERTF members Marian Murphy and Mavis Howard, also Liz Evans, Margaret Starr and Vanda Campbell.

The exhibition is on the ground floor with easy access and parking

Visits to London Exhibitions

If you are interested in joining with other ERTF members to visit the following museum exhibitions dates have been arranged as follows:

Friday 21st May - V&A , Quilts and /or Grace Kelly exhibition
Friday 4th June - PRISM at the Mall Galleries

If you are interested you need to let Chris Spencer know, just so she has names and numbers and she can give you information on time/place to meet. For the V&A exhibitions there is a charge which you can pay on the day; although if you are a V&A member you can get in for free.

Magnificent Maps at the British Library

From 30th April 2010, the British Library has a free exhibition on maps, which may be of inspiration for some textile artists. For extra inspiration check out:

Starting this Sunday, there are 3 episodes, 1 hour each, 9pm BBC4 : Maps Power, Plunder & Possession. It is repeated on BBC4 later in the week too.

OWEN JONES PROJECT


We are now full steam ahead with this project and have re-opened the list so that all ERTF members can participate.

We are proposing a non-juried, travelling exhibition which will give ERTF members a chance to showcase their work around the region in a non-juried environment.

Members already registered on the project will have received a personal email with full details and an invitation to the Owen Jones Blog Members wishing to find out more should go to the web site, Members Section, Committee Organised Events, Exhibitions to find out more.

An Intent to Exhibition Form has to be returned by 7th May.

ERTF CONFERENCE 24th APRIL

NON MEMBERS ARE WELCOME to our 5th conference which is themed around fashion and textiles, an interesting and fun subject with speakers from commercial and academic backgrounds. We will hear from fashion designer Kathy Lewiston, Dr Veronika Kapsali from Middlesex University on the MA in Fashion Textiles and Dennis Northdruft together with Chris Hall from the Fashion Museum, London. Not forgetting our Members Spotlight featuring Juliet Bryson. A packed and diverse itinerary.

Herts local meeting

Suffolk group

Suffolk members had a very successful meeting at Nowton Hall, Bury St Edmunds - a wonderful 16th century manor house. [I was too impressed to remember to take photos!]
We have pledged to carry forward our enthusiasm into lots of fascinating projects and work.
We will meet monthly, the next is booked for 26th April anyone else interested in joining us please contact Suffolk rep.
