Textiles in Focus Cottenham

This is a an annual event run by Pauline and her husband who never gets an honourable mention but puts up with all the grief. So an honourable mention here!

This is one of the main events in our region for textile holics and it is a fab, friendly time - there is plenty to do, workshops, exhibitions, lecture, buying and it is small enough to have time to talk to everyone you know plus it is the cheapest event I knowto buy entry ticket - £5!

It is on all weekend and I cannot recommend highly enough. Have fun and enjoy.

Chelmsford Workshops

Our programme of workshops at Chelmsford Museum started full steam ahead a week ago with Kirsten leading a full adult workshop on printing and stitching. Great feedback from the day and a success all round.
This week saw Kirsten leading two sessions of children's workshops with the help of Janette and I. 24 children in the morning and 19 in the afternoon! A selection of photos from the day and every child that attended gave it 100% - even the 4 year old! and the majority went away with a finished piece - a badge or brooch in the morning and a bag in the afternoon.

Owen Jones Exhibitions 2012

Our travelling exhibition gets unpacked again this year and will be at Saffron Walden Museum from 14th July until 2 September. I will be giving a talk on Owen Jones on 11 June to the Friends of the Museum.
work by Suzanne Jarvis
It then travels on to a revamped Peterborough Museum where Cambridge member, Pat Brusdon will take over the organisation.
So keep your eyes open for ERTF events around these exhibitions.

Danish Day!

Essex Member, Kirsten Yeates, held a day at her house last Friday to look at her collection of Danish textiles - some of museum quality and all brought in charity shops in her homeland. She told as that charity shops in Denmark are like they used to be here, a good rummage unearths wonderful, if not valuable, treasures not a worn Primark teeshirt! She gave us some history and then we were able to rummage through her wonderful collection of textiles, books and information.
She had promised us a lunch and surprised us all with snapps and a three course smorgasboard - it was incredibly generous and an interesting and fun day out.
Thank you so much Kirsten from all of us.

April AGM and Conference

This will be held on 14th April at Girton College, Cambridge and the title of the conference is The Culture of Exhibiting. A mixed and interesting line up has been booked and two traders, our member from Craft Arena and the wonderful Chrome Yellow Books will be there. Catering has also been renegotiated after the complaints last year! So we have a committee meeting on Feb 20th to finalise the day, then full information and the tickets will be released
