On Saturday 15 November 2014, ERTF held another successful conference at the Zinc Arts Centre in Harlow. Our guest speaker was Marion Murphy who spoke about her work under the title "My Cabinet of Curiosities", but there were also workshops for members to try new textile techniques and the Cornucopia Shops.

ERTF November Conference - Saturday 15th November 2014 in Essex - "Drawing on Inspiration"
Full booking details for the November Conference "Drawing on Inspiration" are now available on the ERTF website. This conference is open to members and non-members. It will be held at the Zinc Arts Centre, Harlow in Essex

Textiles in the Garden - 1st to 14th September 2014
ERTF member, Melinda Berkovitz, is just one of the Chelmsford '93 Group, who will be exhibiting at RHS Garden Hyde Hall, Rettendon, Chelmsford, Essex.

Talk in Cambridge for ERTF members (12 September 2014)
All members are invited to a light-hearted talk by Cambridge based mixed media artist Hilary Sugai who will show her work. This will take place on Friday 12th September at 7.30 pm.
Hilary is a textile tutor at Rowan Humberstone. She lived in Japan for some years and now often runs art workshops in Spain. She has a wide experience of Art as Therapy and is currently exploring Recycled Art. She is an exciting and dynamic speaker so it should be an entertaining evening.
The cost is £5 per person and will include nibbles

Rochford Art Trail - 18 to 27 September 2014

Gateways by 98 Lace Group - 6 September to 1 November 2014.
The 98 Lace Group is a 34 strong group of contemporary lacemakers from across the UK who work in a myriad of styles. ERTF members Tamara Goulding, Suzanne Jarvis and Pat Brunsdon all have work that will be in their exhibition at Wisbech and Fenland Museum.
Other notable places to visit in Wisbech are Peckover House - National Trust and Octavia Hill's Birthplace House.

Burnham Art Trail - 21 to 29 June 2014
ERTF member, Beverley Folkard will be just one of the 47 artists in 34 venues in Burnham on Crouch, Essex in June this year. The Burnham Art Trail is celebrating its tenth year this year.

Denny Abbey Tour/Study Day
ERTF members had their first group visit, tour and study day at Denny Abbey on 17 May. Feedback received so far is that those who attended are now buzzing with inspiration, ready for the exhibition in 2015. Another follow up is planned for members in July and some members are making their own private visits.

ERTF Summer Outing to the Manor at Hemingford Grey (Members only)
ERTF members have a guided tour planned on Thursday 29 May at the Manor at Hemingford Grey. The garden is beautiful and the house magical. The Manor was the home of Lucy Boston and the inspiration for her books of the Greene Knowe. Her collection of quilts is inspirational.

In preparation for an open exhibition for ERTF members in 2015, a study day is being held at Denny Abbey and Farmland Museum on Saturday 17 May 2014.

Between the Layers - Chelmsford City Museum
Night and Day Group have a fabulous exhibition now on at Chelmsford City Museum, Essex. Includes work by ERTF member Lori Jay Donaldson.
The Museum is open every day, except Fridays in term time. Mon-Sat 10am to 5pm and Sundays 1pm to 4pm. Admission to the museum and the exhibition is free. The exhibition continues until 30 June 2014.

ERTF conference - photographing textiles
The ERTF held a very successful conference and AGM on Saturday 5 April 2014, at Hemingford Abbots Golf Complex, near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.
The title of the conference was Photographing Your Textiles and Dr Chris Thomas, Director of Milton Contact Limited showed everyone how to improve their photography using cameras from Smartphones to SLRs, and some basic editing skills.
A full report of the day will be available to members in our newsletter (available online by 1st May), but Chris has very kindly given us a link to his own blog, which includes some of the images taken on the day.

LAST FEW DAYS - ERTF Exhibition

The selected exhibition by Members of the Eastern Region Textile Forum, comes to an end this week. If you've not seen it, do go along. Interpretation of the title has been varied and exciting, with many pieces sold and commissions taken.
The Meet the Maker Days were successful.
