November ERTF Conference

On Saturday 15 November 2014, ERTF held another successful conference at the Zinc Arts Centre in Harlow.  Our guest speaker was Marion Murphy who spoke about her work under the title "My Cabinet of Curiosities", but there were also workshops for members to try new textile techniques and the Cornucopia Shops.

Here are some images of the day.  A full report will be available to members in the next newsletter in the new year, and by then we should have details for our next conference in April.

Autumn newsletter - now available

The ERTF autumn 2014 newsletter is now available on the website.  For members only, it has reviews on "Things to do in Bed", "Silvery Threads" and "Art in Action 2014".  Plus information on upcoming exhibitions both ERTF and in the eastern England region and more.

Catch my Drift - exhibition in Billericay, Essex - 1st to 30th October 2014 (closed Mondays)

ERTF member, Wendy Greene, is one of the exhibitors in the O2 Textiles Group who will be exhibiting at Craft Arena, Barleylands Craft Village, Billericay, Essex from 1st to 30th October 2014.  ERTF members are also welcome to attend the opening event - full details are available on the Members Area of the ERTF website - www.easternregiontextileforum.co.uk.

ERTF November Conference - Saturday 15th November 2014 in Essex - "Drawing on Inspiration"

Full booking details for the November Conference "Drawing on Inspiration" are now available on the ERTF website.  This conference is open to members and non-members.  It will be held at the Zinc Arts Centre, Harlow in Essex

The day will include a talk by experienced textile artist, Marion Murphy "My Cabinet of Curiosities", as well as workshops and the Cornucopia Shop.

Booking needs to be finalised by Thursday 30th October 2014 - so don't delay book today.

Members £30 and non-members £40, but if a non-member decides to join the ERTF group within three months of the conference, £10 of this fee will be put towards membership fees.

November Conference - "Drawing on Inspiration" - Saturday 15th November 2014

Textiles in the Garden - 1st to 14th September 2014

ERTF member, Melinda Berkovitz, is just one of the Chelmsford '93 Group, who will be exhibiting at RHS Garden Hyde Hall, Rettendon, Chelmsford, Essex.

RHS members free - admission charges apply for other visitors, but that includes access to all the gardens as well as the textile exhibition.

Herts Visual Arts Open Studios - 6 to 28 September 2014

ERTF member Jenny Leslie, is just one of the artists participating in Herts Visual Arts Open Studios.  She will be demonstrating fructose indigo dyeing on 6 and 27 September.

Talk in Cambridge for ERTF members (12 September 2014)

All members are invited to a light-hearted talk  by Cambridge based mixed media artist Hilary Sugai who will show her work. This will take place on  Friday 12th September at  7.30 pm. 

                                          
Hilary  is a textile tutor at Rowan Humberstone. She lived in Japan for some years and now often runs art workshops in Spain. She has a wide experience of Art as Therapy  and is currently exploring Recycled Art. She is an exciting and dynamic speaker so it should be an entertaining evening.

 The cost is £5 per person and will include nibbles

Rochford Art Trail - 18 to 27 September 2014

ERTF member Beverley Folkard is just one of the artists participating this year in the Rochford Art Trail, which runs from 18 to 27 September.

Gateways by 98 Lace Group - 6 September to 1 November 2014.

The 98 Lace Group is a 34 strong group of contemporary lacemakers from across the UK who work in a myriad of styles. ERTF members Tamara Goulding, Suzanne Jarvis and Pat Brunsdon all have work that will be in their exhibition at Wisbech and Fenland Museum.

Other notable places to visit in Wisbech are Peckover House - National Trust and Octavia Hill's Birthplace House.

Encounters with Famous Artworks - Bedford, 19 July to 16 August 2014

ERTF member Jenny Leslie is one of the artists exhibiting at The Eagle Gallery in Bedford this summer.

City and Guild Stitch Textile Students from Fantasia Textiles - 3 August 2014, Colchester, Esex

ERTF member, Norah Stocker, who runs Fantasia Textiles is organising an exhibition of students' work on Sunday 3 August 2014, between 10am and 4pm.  The exhibition will be held at The Best Western Marks Tey Hotel

Brentwood Art Trail - until 12 July

ERTF member Kirsten Yeates is exhibiting in the Brentwood Arts Trail at the Chicken and Frog Bookshop, Ongar Road, Brentwood, Essex until the 12^th July 2014. 

Natural Dye Day - 2 August 2014

ERTF member, Jenny Leslie, is organising a natural dye day at her studio in Hertfordshire.  Full details, including contact information, are available on the ERTF website, in the members area.

Windsor School of Textile Arts annual exhibition - July 1st to 5th.

New ERTF member, Sue Dunkerley is one of those exhibiting at the Windsor School of Textile Arts Annual 2014 Exhibition from July 1-5 2014.

The exhibition is showcasing short courses, mentoring groups, advanced textile workshops and C&G L3 Embroidery/Stitched textiles and can be found at Bracknell Gallery, South Hill Park Arts Centre RG12 7PA.

Burnham Art Trail - 21 to 29 June 2014

ERTF member, Beverley Folkard will be just one of the 47 artists in 34 venues in Burnham on Crouch, Essex in June this year.  The Burnham Art Trail is celebrating its tenth year this year.

Beverley's work will be found in Venue 7 and on Thursday 26 June you will find her stewarding in the museum.

Diversity in Nature - Snape, Suffolk from 6 to 12 June 2014

ERTF member, Norah Stocker, his exhibiting from 6 to 12 June at the Workshop Gallery, Snape Maltings, Snape, Suffolk as part of Print2Stitch's exhibition "Diversity in Nature".

Denny Abbey Tour/Study Day

ERTF members had their first group visit, tour and study day at Denny Abbey on 17 May.  Feedback received so far is that those who attended are now buzzing with inspiration, ready for the exhibition in 2015. Another follow up is planned for members in July and some members are making their own private visits.

ERTF Summer Outing to the Manor at Hemingford Grey (Members only)

ERTF members have a guided tour planned on Thursday 29 May at the Manor at Hemingford Grey.  The garden is beautiful and the house magical.  The Manor was the home of Lucy Boston and the inspiration for her books of the Greene Knowe.  Her collection of quilts is inspirational.

Study Day and Tour (members only) at Denny Abbey and Farmland Museum

In preparation for an open exhibition for ERTF members in 2015, a study day is being held at Denny Abbey and Farmland Museum on Saturday 17 May 2014.

A follow up event will be held on 26 July 2014.

ERTF - Spring 2014 newsletter now available (members only)

The spring edition of the ERTF newsletter is now available for members to view online - included are articles on the recent ERTF conference, the Fashion and Garden exhibition at the Garden Museum, a walking tour of Spitalfields, an exhibition at Chelmsford Museum by Night & Day Group, a new embroidered exhibit at Stow Maries, Essex and the recent exhibition at Excel, London.

Also information about the recent ERTF conference and up and coming ERTF events.

"What's on" includes listings of textile and inspirational events and exhibitions now and coming soon - local to international.

Between the Layers - Chelmsford City Museum

Night and Day Group have a fabulous exhibition now on at Chelmsford City Museum, Essex.  Includes work by ERTF member Lori Jay Donaldson.

The Museum is open every day, except Fridays in term time.  Mon-Sat 10am to 5pm and Sundays 1pm to 4pm.  Admission to the museum and the exhibition is free.  The exhibition continues until 30 June 2014.

ERTF conference - photographing textiles

The ERTF held a very successful conference and AGM on Saturday 5 April 2014, at Hemingford Abbots Golf Complex, near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

The title of the conference was Photographing Your Textiles and Dr Chris Thomas, Director of Milton Contact Limited showed everyone how to improve their photography using cameras from Smartphones to SLRs, and some basic editing skills.

A full report of the day will be available to members in our newsletter (available online by 1st May), but Chris has very kindly given us a link to his own blog, which includes some of the images taken on the day.

The selected exhibition by Members of the Eastern Region Textile Forum, comes to an end this week.  If you've not seen it, do go along.  Interpretation of the title has been varied and exciting, with many pieces sold and commissions taken.
